Sarah Schlote

I am a bilingual (français / English) Registered Psychotherapist, Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

Touch-based modalities aside from SE that I have completed include the Touch Skills Training (Kathy Kain) and the Somatic Resilience and Regulation Training (Kathy Kain and Steve Terrell). I have also done a 1-day introduction to NeuroAffective Touch (Aline LaPierre), and 2 modules of Body Memory Recall Training (Jonathan Tripodi).

Additional trauma treatment approaches that I use include EMDR, Brainspotting, parts work (structural dissociation theory for working with personality fragmentation / ego states, with elements drawn from Internal Family Systems, inner child work, and Transactional Analysis), Indigenous Tools for Living (a short course derived from Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy), and aspects drawn from psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, equine- and animal-assisted therapy, mindfulness, and attachment-based frameworks.

My practice is primarily with adults - both general public as well as therapists and helping professionals (as clients and for consultations).

I celebrate diversity, and come from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive and intersectional framework. I respect animals as sentient beings whose needs, choices, consent, and welfare are a priority in the context of animal-assisted interventions, and also teach and consult on applying SE to equines as clients with their own trauma histories, patterning, and needs.

Areas of focus in my practice:

*Pre-natal, peri-natal, early developmental trauma, developmental disruptions, and death / dying
*Relational rupture, repair, and attunement
*Complex dissociation patterns, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and parts
*Addressing complexity associated with developmental trauma, core shame, misattunements, unmet needs, and Cluster B patterning
*Recovering from narcissistic / reactive abuse
*The intersections of neurodivergence (ADHD, autism) and trauma from a ND-affirming perspective
*Complex health syndromes
*Pelvic floor dysfunction
*Religious trauma, spiritual trauma, ritual abuse
*Appeasement and thwarted relational orienting
*Equine and equestrian trauma

I founded EQUUSOMA Horse-Human Trauma Recovery, which examines the intersections of trauma in equines, trauma in humans, and how to support renegotiation for each individually and together. For more information, visit www.equusoma.com and www.equuscience.com.
