Maya Fernandez is a native New Mexican. She enjoys spending time with her two kids, her husband of over 20 years, and her closest friends. She loves traveling whether for a family vacation, or an opportunity to take continuing education programs which may not be offered in New Mexico. She loves to spend time walking her dogs in nature. Her interests include dancing, meditating, cooking/baking and Gyrotonic.
Raised with deep familial and cultural ties she believes in honoring her ancestors, cultural traditions, and teaching this to the generations after her. This leads her to provide her clients with great understanding of cultural family dynamics. Maya embraces and works with clients from varied races, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic status. As a latinx Chicana she has a special passion for activism and community engagement, with the deep belief of always supporting minority people.
She has always focused on living a healthy lifestyle by being active, eating consciously, and taking care of herself holistically. Recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, a major focus of her life is understanding chronic pain/illness, and works in tandem with integrative healthcare & wellness. Through this she also provides her clients a network of holistic health resources.
She is also a local coordinator and volunteer for Mata Amritanandamayi, frequently known as Amma or the Hugging Saint, and her NGO Embracing the World. In the path of her own healing journey she has found self-love and spirituality to be crucial in the greater understanding of her own life & purpose. Some of her spiritual influences and philosophies include Santería, Amma, A Course in Miracles, Curanderismo, and Chakra/energy healing.
