My training as a clinical counselor focused on utilizing talk therapy to work through traumatic experiences and life difficulties cognitively. I found that though my clients’ relayed feeling heard and getting relief from sharing their stories, something was missing. The tools they identified and implemented provided short term relief, but when anything unexpected occurred, it seemed their new management strategies easily became fractured, were tossed out and a return to old management patterns of fight, flight, freeze or submit reemerged. I felt something was missing in my ability to support their healing more deeply. The missing piece fell into place through my introduction to healing of shock trauma through Somatic Experiencing and I completed the requirements to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. My exposure to supportive touch in the final year of my Somatic Experiencing training gave me a taste of how much of one’s healing is non-verbal and inaccessible to talk therapy. In my practice, I work with the non-verbal language of sensation and physiological responses to threat through supportive touch. I support my clients’ healing process from developmental trauma, complex trauma and shock trauma by supporting regulation within the nervous system. Every day I look forward to engaging with my clients’ healing process through listening and supporting the language of the body through the utilization of somatic touch. The healing I am witnessing in my office is powerful and the changes my client’s begin to step into are truly a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Whenever I can, I am educating my colleagues; friends and whomever will listen to me about the power of the somatic self and the deep healing of wounds that can occur through supportive touch. I serve as an adjunct somatic touch therapist to talk therapists in the area who encourage their clients to ‘get out of their head’ by also seeing me. I am passionate about this work as I have seen amazing results and powerful healing and am interested in supporting you in your healing journey in a manageable way. I look forward to meeting you!
