**Please note that I am not currently accepting clients and have retired from private practice for the time being to focus on new opportunities. If you are seeking clinical consultation or custom trainings, please visit sarahschlote.com or equusoma.com

I am a Registered Psychotherapist, Canadian Certified Counsellor, and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. Touch-based modalities aside from SE that I have completed include the Touch Skills Training and the Somatic Resilience and Regulation Training. I have also done a 1-day introduction to NeuroAffective Touch, and 2 modules of Body Memory Recall Training.

Additional trauma treatment modalities that I use include EMDR, Brainspotting, parts work (structural dissociation theory for working with personality fragmentation, with elements drawn from Internal Family Systems, inner child work, and Transactional Analysis), trauma-focused integrative equine-facilitated wellness, trauma-focused equine-assisted psychotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness.

I also draw on aspects of DBT, MBCT, Gestalt Therapy, CBT, Art Therapy, motivational interviewing, indigenous principles, and non-violent communication.

My practice is primarily with adults - both general public as well as therapists and helping professionals (as clients and for consultations).

I celebrate diversity, come from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive and intersectional framework. I respect animals as sentient beings whose needs, choices, consent, and welfare are a priority in the context of animal-assisted interventions.

I am particularly interested in working with early developmental trauma (pre-natal, birth, peri-natal, early childhood), dissociation, body memory, attachment injuries, family of origin issues, colonial trauma, religious trauma, cultural trauma, intergenerational trauma, complex PTSD, and other experiences of adversity that have resulted in emotional, physiological, relational, cognitive and psychological dysregulation, anxiety, depression, anger challenges, relationship difficulties, and chronic health issues.

I am active in the field of equine-assisted interventions, and have created EQUUSOMA and Trauma-Informed Horsemanship, which feature the intersection of Somatic Experiencing, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and trauma-informed care into horse-human relationships and trauma recovery.
